licensed to love

can you imagine if you were required to have a license to love someone? i, for one, am glad thats not the case.

david and i took a trip to the cook county clerk’s office after work last night, our $30 in hand, to apply for our marriage license. we were pleasantly surprised to find that the line ahead of us was not long, and even more pleasantly surprised that we were in and out of there in 20 minutes.

according to the cook county clerk’s web site,

“under illinois law, only eligible persons can marry. both the bride and groom must:

  • be 18 years of age or older
  • be of opposite sex
  • not be blood relatives”

the last of these three eligibility requirements was obviously an important one to the woman helping us. she asked us, simply and quickly, “you two blood relatives?” “no,” we both answered, and that was that. the honor system to the highest degree.

our license is good for 60 days. our wedding is in 29.

happy love thursday, everyone!

Cecilia and I are old enough that when we got married, you were still required to take an AIDS test. There was no reason for either of us to be concerned, but it was still spooky. I think I like the honor system better!

Aw, fun!

I know, I will have to stop by and see the paint! I can't wait to start painting our apartment...I think it will be a month or so still though...Don't worry about the noise, it's not a problem at all.

So, when you signed the lease, did you use your new signature? I had to practice mine!
