hipy papy bthuthdy

yesterday was our friend amy's birthday. i've known amy since she was born, and she and david hit it off immediately upon their first meeting. incidentally, amy is also the younger sister of our friend laurie, another family friend since birth. laurie, along with amy's boyfriend, sean, took amy to dinner at one of her favorite local spots, the pit, but what she didn't know was that david and i were planning to meet them for dessert afterwards. perhaps a yummy drink at starbucks or a treat at cold stone?

however, sean also was unaware of these plans, and he had already ordered a cake for dessert. so david and i made our way to amy's place for some sweets and coffee, and to wish her a happy birthday. it was great fun, and we left just in time to miss the torrential downpour of the day. as we parted ways, i wished amy a "hipy papy bthuthdy." she was, as i'm sure you are now, a bit lost.

by way of explanation, i give you an excerpt:

So Owl wrote . . . and this is what he wrote:

HIPY PAPY BTHUTHDTH THUTHDA BTHUTHDY.

Pooh looked on admiringly.

"I'm just saying 'A Happy Birthday'," said Owl carelessly.

"It's a nice long one," said Pooh, very much impressed by it.

"Well, actually, of course, I'm saying, 'A Very Happy Birthday with love from Pooh.' Naturally it takes a good deal of pencil to say a long thing like that."

"Oh, I see," said Pooh.
