T-minus nine days

This past weekend we took a mini-trip to Galesburg and Urbana, Illinois, first to witness the wedding of our friends Anne and Kenny, and then to see our friend Cara perform in a musical. Both events were wonderful in their own special ways. We enjoyed two beautiful days for traveling, and it was good just to be together. Whether we were talking about anything and everything or driving in silence and watching the clouds change form as they traveled across the beautiful blue sky, we enjoyed the chance to be together, and to get out of Chicago for a bit.

Upon our return, it hit me that we are now nine days away from our departure date. Sweden is, quite literally, just around the corner. Tonight, we will meet up with Derek and Carin, who have rented out their apartment to us while they spend a few weeks in the States, to get the keys to their place and find out what we need to know before we go.

Then the whirlwind will begin. Picking up travel necessities, finding the right kind of adapters for our electronic devices, determining how much money to bring and converting our dollars to kronor (crowns), renting a car, making sure not to buy any groceries we won’t eat before we leave, doing a packing test-run, and keeping life in general organized between now and when we leave.

These last few days are going to go by quickly, I’m sure.

my hard-won advice: choose what you want to pack, and then take just half of it.
